6/1/2018 - THE UPSIDE DOWN
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:14.
In the book American Gods by Neil Gaiman, there is a part when Wednesday and Shadow went “behind the scenes”, into another dimension, to escape the people that were trying to capture then. In Stranger Things L is from another dimension called the “Upside Down” and also were a number of characters get stuck. Every movie and TV show has extra footage of what happens “behind the scenes” because not everything that happens in front of the camera shows up in the movie, like the bloopers, deleted scenes, etc. Picking up what I am putting down? If not, let me explain. Everyday there is a war going on and I am not talking about the one going on in the Middle East. There is a war going on behind the scenes, behind the scenes of you life. This daily war is fought between characters, the devil and God. The devil is constantly trying to encompass us in the darkness of the world, while God is on our side making sure that does not happen. The good news is that the war is already won, it is written. The war is already won through the great power of God. John 16:33 says, “I have told all these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome this world.” Romans 8:37-39 says, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced hat neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:51 says, “But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Each day is a new battle. Each day and battle could be won or lost depending on who you feed; whether you feed the flesh or the spirit (Go look at the the devotional from 5/22/18 - Wolves). Here’s some words of wisdom from Call of Duty that I have heard so many times (even though I led the team in kills, and had the least amount of deaths), “We may have lost this battle, but the war has only just begun.” So, do not be discouraged and keep faith. Matthew 6:34 says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Every day is a new day and another day to make up for past mistakes. But do not dwell on the past mistakes or future mistakes. Do not dwell on the past and future or you will never live in the present. 2 Chronicles 20:15 says, “‘Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! His is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.’’” This daily war is not ours, but God’s. God has promised that he will always be there for us. He has told us numerous times that he will never leave us or forsake us. He has shown it, too. He has not just said it, but he has sent his one and only true Son to us, Jesus. He sent him not just in any form, but in the flesh to live among the flesh. He was sent to be the perfect example to live by. All we have to do is live godly lives. We have to follow Jesus’s example. We have to stand firm against the devil and all that he is throwing at us by putting on the full suit of armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). We have to be watchful of everything (1 Peter 5:8). We have to be equipped with the Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Stand still and trust in God. The war is already won by our God.
Lord, thank you for all you do. You truly are an amazing God. There is a constant battle going on in our life and you take it on for us. We are truly grateful for all you do. We do not deserve your love and your sacrifice. Continue to guide us in this war. Help us in our unbeliefs and through our struggles. I pray all this in your son’s glorious awesome name, Amen.
